After the Reiki: Why Self-Care Matters After Energy Work

If you received Reiki from me recently, I want to begin by saying thank you. I am so grateful for our time together and the opportunity to share Reiki with you. Reiki is a sacred, gentle, and powerful form of energy healing that doesn’t end when the session is over, it continues to unfold and integrate within you for several days.

Many people feel immediate shifts after Reiki, relaxation, clarity, even emotional release. But what’s often overlooked is the importance of how you care for yourself in the hours and days after a session. Just like with any healing process, your body, mind, and spirit need time and space to fully receive and integrate the benefits.


What Is Reiki Energy Doing After the Session?

Reiki, meaning “universal life force energy,” works by gently releasing what no longer serves you and restoring balance where it's needed. After a session, the Reiki energy continues to flow through you, helping to:


  • Clear blockages in the energy field

  • Support detoxification of emotional or physical tension

  • Balance the nervous system and emotional states

  • Encourage deep healing at all levels: body, mind, and spirit

  • Opens your intuition & spiritual gifts: you may experience a heightened state of awareness


This energy continues to work through you for up to 3–4 days after the session. Some people experience more energy, while others feel the need to rest deeply. Both are perfect responses, your body knows exactly what it needs.


Gentle Reminders for Post-Reiki Self-Care


To support this integration, here are some gentle reminders:

🌿 Take it easy – Listen to your body. If you feel called to rest, rest. If you feel energized, move gently. Let your intuition guide your pace.

💧 Hydrate deeply – Drink more water than you’re used to. Water helps flush out anything that’s being released and supports your body's natural healing rhythms.

🌲 Spend time with Mother Nature – A walk in the trees, your feet on the earth, or just sitting under the sky helps you ground and align with the natural flow of life.

🌻 Ground yourself often – Visualize roots extending from your feet into the earth. Eat grounding foods like root vegetables. Breathe slowly and feel yourself settle into your body.

📝 Journal – Take the time to document your experience, especially if you receive reiki regularly, that way you can see your progress.


You Are Your Own Healer

Reiki opens the door, but your continued presence and care are what help the healing take root. Your body is wise. Your spirit is listening. And your choice to honor this time after Reiki is a powerful part of your healing journey.
